Also managed to plant up all my tulip bulbs which has cleared some room in the kitchen where they have been sitting on the side. I don't tend to buy tulips as they only ever last one season with me but if I see them cheap, as in Lidl or Aldi or Wilco, I'll buy them. Most of the packets were only 99p so that's my excuse for having bought so many.... As they'll only last one year I cram them really tight in containers to ensure a colourful show in the Spring. I don't layer them as many gardeners advocate as I find the old tatty foliage of the earlier bulbs gets in the way of the later ones. And, being mean and hopeful at the same time, I try and convince myself on an annual basis that they WILL re-flower next year if I feed them and leave the old foliage on. Have yet to have the satisfaction of this! Only the allium bulbs left to go in now but these need to go in the ground. I've never had luck growing them in pots, even when bought from the garden centre in pots ready to plant. But, having re-sprained my leg and back in a fixed brace, I'm going to have to wait till Mike has time to plant them for me. I haven't told him about the 30 camassia bulbs and 45 Gladiolus byzantinus bulbs that also have to go in asap!
