Freda has now come out of hibernation in the fridge and woken up. I overwinter in the crisper box as that way I can keep an eye on her and not have to rush outside to check temperatures etc if she was in a box in the shed. She seems happy enough but somehow, despite no food for twelve weeks, has grown! It was a tight squeeze trying to get her in the washing up bowl to rehydrate her! She is currently in her box on the kitchen table with a heat lamp but she will be going into a new 'summer home' when the weather warms up. I can't fit a run into the garden very easily now that the shepherd's hut is here so am going to keep her in the greenhouse. That way she'll be warm, safe and have a lot more room to explore. She'll have shade from the staging and humidity from the pond that is in there. My only worry is that she'll find a way under the pond where I won't be able to see her! The bark chippings that I had in the greenhouse before have been put in to the new raised bed as they are poisonous to tortoises. I'm going to re-lay with two different sized gravels and paving slabs for sun bathing on. Fingers crossed she'll love it.
